Produced by the most experienced artisans with the utmost care! The Dayton pattern of this felling axe is a timeless shape and much preferred by skilled woodsmen. The blade is forged from 5160 grade alloy steel for strength, toughness, durability and it is heat-treated and quenched to produce a hardened edge extending 1-1/2" up the bit for maximum edge holding. The edge is tempered to Rc 50-54 to hold an edge without becoming brittle. The 36"L curved handle is made of grade "A" American hickory for proper grain orientation and alignment and is mounted to the head in a traditional manner using a softwood wedge crossed with a steel wedge for added security. A Linseed oil coating is applied to protect the handle. The 4 lb. axe head is coated with oil to prevent rusting and to showcase the natural beauty. A leather sheath is included to protect the tool and the user. Sheath is made of premium leather with a buckle for fastening and an embossed logo. Made in the USA. Caution: Use caution when handling this axe, the blade is hand honed to razor sharpness.
